Model Answers for IELTS Speaking Part 1 (Interview): Decoration
1. What’s the decoration like in your home?
I am into (to like sth) minimalistic (using the smallest range of colors and materials) style , so there’s not many colorful decorations in my home. As far as I recall (according to what I remember), there’s only a small wardrobe, a queen-sized bed and several necessary things like washing machine. The walls are painted in white with some black stripes. The most noticeable (easy to see) decoration is a big plant in the living room which makes my house look brighter and lively (full of energy).
2. What kind of decoration do you prefer?
I don’t think that I have a preference here. But I can’t stand (dislike) something that is too busy. I remember that my friend has a painting in his room and he takes a lot of pride in (=is proud of) having it, but it looks like a mishmash (a mess) of colors to me, to say the least (used to emphasize a statement). I just see no beauty in it. But you know what they say: there’s no accounting for taste (it is impossible to explain why different people like different things).
3. Do people in your country like redecorating their home?
Well, it depends much more on the tastes of each person. There are those who are into (like) it, and devote (dedicate) their time and money to decorating or renovating their home. At the same time, there are many people think it’s just too much work for them.
4. What’s your favorite color when decorating your home?
I like cold colors like black, white, and lighter shades of green. I can feel relaxed and calm when you look at those colors. While I can’t stand hot colors like red or yellow which are just too much for me. I even feel quite dizzy and can’t concentrate on my work when I look at something in these colors. So eating in fast food restaurants like KFC which has a dominant red is a big no-no for me.
