Describe a visitor in your home

Band 9 Model Answer

In modern world, it’s not a norm to receive guests frequently, since most people are mowed under with work land have little time to pay attention to others. Off the top of my head, just two days ago, an unexpected guest just turned up out of blue at my house.

At the first glance, I didn’t make out who he was, but after a while I burst out loud falling his name as it had been! on the tip of my tongue, really. I was so taken aback by his visit because after years, we haven’t been in contact with each other since our primary school. The truth is that he is residing in the USA, and just returned to [your country] for a flying visit, and to kill two birds with one stone, he managed time to visit me as well.

I was quite elated to receive such a visitor and time field since we were together, you see. For ages without contact, we spent more than 3 hours catching up on news, we chatted about stuff and stuff. Quite unexpectedly but I managed to whip up a decent meal for him. We both had a whale of a time together!

Actually, I received a wedding invitation card front him, and I intend to organize my work and take some days’ leave to travel to the USA to attend his wedding. I hope to see him soon, with his future wife.

IELTS Speaking Part 3

Do you often invite friends to visit your home?

Once in a while, when I’m free and having little to do, I often have my friends over for a chat or a drink. But most of the time they are tied up at the office or school.

Do you like visitors coming to your home?

I don’t particularly like this simply because you have to give them a cordial welcome like preparing a hot tea or some orange juice. If not, the guest can have low opinion of you for not being polite enough. Besides. I have to stop doing everything to spare time to serve the guests.

Do people often visit you at your home? = How often do visitors come to your home? When do visitors come to your home?

Not much I’d say. I don’t have a broad circle of friends, just a few really close ones so often they don’t drop in on me. However, every day my father has some guests paying a flying visit for some chit-chat in the evenings.

Do you prefer to have friends visit you, or relatives?

I’d love to see my buddies come round for a drink or something because with friends, we have a lot of stuff in common and can feel at ease while exchanging conversations casually. For relatives, the air is a bit formal and serious because we need to look up to them.

Do you think it’s important to visit other people? What is the value or importance of visiting others?

Well I think most importantly, it shows the person you’re visiting that they mean something to you. And in this day and age, you know, it’s all too easy to just send someone a message or call them up, so if you go to the trouble of actually visiting someone, then I think it means a lot to them

Who prefers visiting other people, older people or young people?

I’ve got to say that the elderly show a bigger preference for laying a visit to, others simply because they have plenty of time to spare. What I’m trying to say is they often find someone to talk to idle away their free time. By contrast, younger generations are constantly on the go, and it’s a big task for them to save time to pay a flying visit to others, only on certain grand occasions, I guess.

Do you think it’s important to make visitors feel comfortable?

Absolutely yes, people had better make their visitors feel at home, which can make the trip more relaxing and pleasant. If they just feel on tenterhooks and uncomfortable, visitors tend to shy away from others and talk less about themselves.

Do you agree that people today are busier than people in the past and so have less time to visit others? Compared to the past, do you think people today visit friends and family more often, or less often?

Without a shadow of a doubt, people today are too mowed under with work studies that they can hardly manage time to pay a flying visit to other. Even relatives seem to meet one another once in a blue moon, just on special occasions like Tec Holiday or Christmas Eve. Without such days, I guess people wouldn’t be willing to visit each other.

How to make a foreign visitor feel at home? = If a friend was visiting you at home, how would you make them feel comfortable?

Well, thinking about it, I would firstly put some background music on, so that there were no awkward silences, if you know what I mean! And I would also make sure that the temperature was just right, so for that I would most likely turn on the air-conditioning, oh and finally, I would let them help themselves to whatever food or drink they wanted, which I think would make them feel at

Should the guest offer help to the host?

Well, I wouldn’t say it’s necessary, and the host certainly wouldn’t expect it, but I think if a guest did offer help, then It would be a nice gesture! And I mean, even if the host didn’t take them up on the offer, it would still leave a good impression on them.
