IELTS Speaking Part 2 Band 8 Sample

Ok, well I would actually like to start by saying that I try to be polite in all situations, because that was basically how I was brought up, but if I was to choose a particular occasion when I had to be polite, then I’ll talk about the time I went to Í friend’s house for their birthday party.

And as for when it was, well I suppose it must have been about three or four months ago, and basically what happened was that a friend of mine invited me, along with a few other of his friends, to his house for dinner to celebrate his birthday with him. And when we got there, we were given a nice welcome by his parents, who then offered US some drinks and took UÍ through to the living room to wait for a bit while they finished preparing the dinner. Anyway, it was worth the wait, because the dinner was fantastic, and by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed!

So regarding why I had to be polite, well, I think it goes without saying that whenever you go to someone else’s house, you should always be polite, you know, it’s common sense, because I mean, if someone’s kind enough to invite you to their home and treat you to food and drink, the least you can do is be polite and well-mannered, and if you’re not, then chances are that you won’t get invited back!

You know, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced times when someone hasn’t behaved very well when they’ve been a guest at our home, and usually when that happens, the first thing we say to each other when that person’s left is ‘there’s no way they’re ever coming back!’. Of course for young children it’s different, but for adults there’s no excuse at all. And if you do make the effort to be polite, then it makes a big difference, because then you’ll leave a very good impression and consequently be welcome as a guest again in the future.

So yeah, I guess that’s pretty much all there is to say, so thanks for listening.

IELTS SPEAKING PART 3

1)    Are people in your country becoming much politer or not?

Well, I think most people are becoming much politer. What I want to mention firstly is that the every teacher will use the textbook to teach the students to be polite. When the students enter the elementary school, the) will have to attend a class named ‘ moral education’. On the class, the teachers will tell the students about what they should do, what they should not do and how can people be polite according to the textbook. Secondly, the teacher will also use some educational movies to teach children to be polite. Since the words on the textbooks are so boring, in order to attract children’s interests, the teachers will always use some videos as the tools to teach the children to be polite. So, we can see that the education system focuses a lot on the education of the politeness, and I strongly believe that the  people will be much politer in the future.

2)    In what ways do people show politeness?

Well, I think people do many things to show politeness. What I want to mention firstly is that the young people always give the seats to those people in need, including the old people, the disabled people, the pregnant women and so on, on the public transportation. Since they were young, the teachers always told them that they should always respect the old and help the people in need. Secondly, when people are talk with each other, they always use some polite words, like ‘ please’ to show the respect. When they ask somebody for help, they will also use some words like, ‘would you please’ or ‘would you mind’ and so on.

3) What are the uncivilized manners on public transportation?

Well, I think many kinds of behaviors are not polite. What I want to mention firstly is that I suppose that those people who make loud noises in the public are impolite. In the current society, many people like talking very loudly on the bus or on the subway and their behaviors have seriously influenced other people. Secondly, some people may shout loudly to the ole people on the bus. I think it is also a kind of impolite behavior since people need to respect the old people.

4) What would you do when this happens?

Well, in most of the cases, I will tell them directly that their behaviors are impolite and I will also tell them what they should do. For example, I remembered that when I was young, my younger sister once shouted very loudly at the grandparents. I told her that it was really impolite and the younger generation needed to respect the older generation. After listening to my words, my younger sister said sorry to her grandparents immediately. So I suppose that we need to point out directly when dealing with the impolite people.

5) Should people show politeness to friends?

Yes, I think so. What I want to mention firstly is that showing politeness is a part of traditional virtues. Since we were young, we have been taught by our teachers and families that we needed to show politeness to the people around US including our friends, families, and the strangers. Secondly, showing politeness to our friends means a kind of respect. Ever! though that the friends are our peers and we are familiar with each other, the daily communication is still based on the mutual respect. Since being politeness is the first step to show respect, it is very important for people to show politeness friends.
