Sample Answer for IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic: Sky and Stars

Do you like to watch the sky?

Well, who doesn’t love to look at the beautiful blue sky in the morning and twinkling stars at night? I personally enjoy watching the magnificent (very impressive and beautiful) beauty of the sky in the day and star gazing at night. It gives me a feeling of peace and tranquility (quietness, calmness).

What is the sky like at night in your hometown?

My hometown is located in the rural (in the countryside) area, and whenever I visit the place during the daytime, I get to see the clear sky with no pollution and smoke. Further, the stars lighting up (to make a place brighter) the sky at night and the moon being reflected on the bank of a river are the most magical sights, where we even get a chance to spot different constellations (a group of stars that form a particular pattern) and stars.

Can you see the moon and stars where you live?

Sadly, I am living in a metropolitan (belonging to a big city) area, where air pollution is more prevalent (very common), and the sky is always hazy(not clear) during the day and at night, due to which it’s impossible to see the moon and stars.

Have you ever taken a course about stars?

No, I have not enrolled in any course about stars. But I had a brief introduction to astrophysics and astronomy during my Bachelor’s when I studied physics as an elective subject. But other than that, I have not studied the concept of stars intensely. If given a chance to study astronomy (the study of the stars, planets, and other objects in the universe), I’d love to know about the evolution of stars, constellations, the milky way, and many more.

What’s your favourite star?

Well, I don’t know much about all of the stars present in the galaxy, but as a matter of fact, the Sun is also a star, and so I’d count the Sun as my favourite. It radiates light, heat, and energy, which keeps us alive. So overall, it is responsible for the existence (the fact or state of living or having objective reality) of all life on Earth. Besides, I love watching the sunset and sunrise, as it gives me a feeling of warmth, appreciation and immense (extremely large) gratitude towards Mother Earth.
