Band 8 Model Answer for IELTS Speaking
So I have decided to tell you about Pictionary, a game I played when I was a child. To be honest with you, I was born in a dysfunctional (not function normally or not happy or successful) family so oftentimes (often) my parents ended up in fighting or falling out (quarrel). You know, whenever they fought, my brother tried to coax me into (to gently persuade someone to do something) playing Pictionary with him so that I didn’t have to witness all the domestic violence and stuff.
So basically, this is a charades-inspired word-guessing game. The game is play in teams with players trying to identify specific words based on illustrations drawn by their teammates. I still remember vividly that every day after school I would play the game with my brother and I always lost myself, I was actually hooked on (keen on/like) the game.

Talking about the reasons why I often immersed myself in playing Pictionary. As I have already mentioned, I didn’t have a carefree childhood so I really considered this game as pure escapism.
Whenever I played the game with my sibling, it helped de-clutter (get rid of sth) my mind and reduce my depressive thoughts about my family situation. Oh, I shouldn’t forget to mention that my brother was adept at (skillful at doing sth) putting people at ease and making them laugh. Every single time I played the game with him, I cracked up so hard.
In addition, the game really helped consolidate my relationship with my brother. You know, in my childhood, I spent most of my free time playing around with him just because I couldn’t confide in dad or mom. So I guess that’s why the game Pictionary is associated with my brother and I hope in the future, I can play the game with him again, I really really did enjoy it.
