Some people think that developing countries need financial help from international organizations. Others think that it is practical aid and advice that is needed. Discuss these views and give your own opinion.

 BAND 9 MODEL ANSWER

People hold different views about whether funded support for developing countries should be perpetuated (to make something continue). In this essay, I will look at how financial aid can benefit these countries in the short term before demonstrating that their sustainable development requires more practical forms of support.

Advocates of lending financial assistance to developing countries may argue that the funding could be allocated to infrastructures. The construction of public amenities such as schools and hospitals can be financed with budgetary support, which may make education and healthcare accessible to citizens. These public projects would also create jobs and, by extension (used when you want to mention something that is naturally related to something else) an income for many people, which encourages spending and bolsters (to make something stronger or more effective) economic growth. For example, the donations from various global organizations in the last century helped South Korea’s government to deliver the basics to the people and strengthen the economy. It is now financially capable of extending support to the neighboring states. This is a testament to the powerful effects of funded support to a developing nation.

However. I believe non-financial assistance would benefit such countries more in terms of long-term development. It is simply unfeasible to sustain funding for a prolonged period of time, lane ultimately the government has to bear the responsibility of improving its citizens’ life quality. Therefore, it would be better if international organizations sent experts in management to provide training for government t workers. The insight gained from the consultations with these specialists would enable them to better address ( if you address a problem, you start trying to solve it) the social problems that persist in their own country. For instance, advice on creating jobs would help leaders of an impoverished (very poor) country combat (fight) unemployment and poverty.

Another reason in favor of (supporting an idea that you believe is right) more practical forms of aid is that funded support might be misappropriated. In poverty-stricken regions where corruption is rampant (existing, happening, or spreading in an uncontrolled way), there is a high chance that government officials would embezzle (to steal money you look after as part of your work) the funding for personal gains. In this case, it would be wiser to send aid workers to directly help the people in need. For example, instead of funding schools, the United Nations should deploy teachers in remote areas of developing countries to provide education for young children. Such a support would not be misused by the government and is more likely to be utilised to the benefit of the citizens.

In conclusion, although financial support may still be offered to developing countries, I believe international organizations should put an emphasis on giving advice and practical aid to their governments going forward.
