About “15 Days’ Practice For IELTS Speaking”
The IELTS Speaking test is the same for both the General Training and Academic modules. IELTS Speaking is different from the other parts of the IELTS test because it is a one-to-one interaction between an IELTS examiner and candidate. The three parts of the speaking test give IELTS test takers an opportunity to use a variety of speaking skills. The Speaking test is recorded for marking purpose.
The IELTS Speaking test are well designed to evaluate how well you can convey your opinions/ thoughts and engage in a conversation.
The IELTS Speaking test is the shortest modules in the IELTS test – only 11to 14 minutes. Within this short time, you have to convince the IELTS examiner of your English proficiency level. The IELTS Speaking test is divided into 3 parts:
IELTS Speaking Part 1 takes about 4-5 minutes. It involves general introduction/interview. Here, the IELTS examiner checks the IELTS test taker is the right person by confirming the IELTS candidate’s name, origin, and identification card .This part also aims to help the IELTS candidate relax and it takes only a few seconds. Then, the IELTS examiner asks the candidate about common topics in life, like studies/jobs, hometown, country, family, future plans, free time, sports and physical activities, color, eating, food, computer, apps, school, etc.
IELTS Speaking Part 2 is the individual long tum talk which furnishes IELTS candidates with an opportunity to deliver a long, uninterrupted response. The examiner will give the candidate an IELTS cue card with a subject such as family, education, work, lifestyle, interest, sports, newspaper, reading, etc and a few guiding questions on the card. These questions are short and the structure of the questions is simple. The candidate must talk for 1to 2 minutes on this subject. He or she is expected to demonstrate an ability to construct a long sample of English. The examiner will assess the candidate’s fluency, coherence, range of structures, pronunciation, and vocabulary.
The candidate has one extra minute so as to prepare for her/his speaking and is provided with a pencil and paper to make some brief notes. After the candidate’s talk, the examiner will ask 1or 2 brief questions to finish off this part which takes about 3 – 4 minutes.
The most complex part IELTS Speaking Part 3 takes 4 – 5 mins. It is also called Discussion part. In this part, the IELTS examiner will prompt and lead the candidate to a series of questions on the topic asked about in IELTS Speaking Part 2. For example, in Part 2, you may have to describe a family member and in Part 3, you may have to discuss about Family in your country. These questions will be more demanding and require some critical thinking. You will be marked on how effectively you can develop the abstract ideas on the IELTS speaking test.
