Some people say that the government should not put money on building theatres and sport stadiums. Others argue that they should spend more money on medical care and education. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Sample Essay

It is highly debatable whether the government’s expenditure (the total amount of money a government or person spends) should be spent on medical care and education rather than on sports stadiums and theatres. In my opinion, I completely agree that the authorities should invest more money in healthcare services and education.

On one hand, I believe that private companies should be in charge of (responsible for something or someone) constructing theaters and sports stadiums because they have more competitive advantages ( factors that allow a person or a company to produce goods or services better or more cheaply than others)  in terms of attracting customers’ attention and generating revenue. Moreover,  the process of making decision in a company is much faster, so it will perform effectively in entertainment industry, where prompt decisions are preferable. In addition, when private organizations are involved in building stadiums and theaters, the annual taxes’ payments from them will contribute greatly to raise the national income.

On the other hand, healthcare service is of great importance for the general public. If the labor force (people who are of the age to work), along with children and the elder people are healthy, work productivity will be enhanced and the country will be thriving (growing, developing, or being successful) as a whole. On top of that, a number of people who have a low standard of living (the degree of comfort that people have) and live below the poverty level (the income below which a family or person is considered to be very poor and in need of help) should receive medical aid whenever needed.  Along with necessary medical care, adequate (enough or satisfactory for a particular purpose) education facilities are also one of the main duties of the government. Nowadays, there are a number of children from deprived  backgrounds who get substandard (below a satisfactory standard) education. They will definitely need a higher quality of education to succeed in later life. What is more, an educated society has less crime and violence and the country gets good recognition if its people are educated.

In conclusion, I opine that the government should raise concentration on improving the quality of education and healthcare services, as well as encouraging private corporations to invest in leisure industry.
