IELTS WRITING TASK 1

The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

MODEL ANSWER

The chart and the table show changes of the exports of five categories in one country between 2015 and 2016. Overall, there was an upward trend in the exports of this country, and petroleum products and engineered goods were the major exports among five categories.

In 2015, the export of petroleum products was highest, followed by engineered goods, with just above 60 billions dollars and 58 billions dollars respectively. In 2016, the exports of both categories increased moderately and had the same value.

The export of gems and jewelry was by far lower than the exports of petroleum products and engineered goods, but it was higher than the exports of agricultural products. While the export of gems and jewelry decreased by 5.15%, the figure for agricultural export was nearly unchanged. Of all five categories, the export of textiles was the lowest at around 25 $ billion, but it saw the most significant growth of 15.24% over a year.

IELTS WRITING TASK 2

Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

MODEL ESSAY

Many people think that the loss of particular plant and animal species is the major environmental problem. Although I agree with this idea, I will point out some environmental problems that are more important.

The loss of some plants and animals should be seen as a main environmental problem because of its impact. For example, the predators in the food chain cannot feed themselves when their preys disappeared. Some people said that we can feed ourselves with domestic castle and animals, so there is no harm to us. In fact, fisherman in some parts of the world cannot go fishing because of the loss of some particular types of fish such as whale. Furthermore, the loss of wild animals and plants places us under the pressure to build zoo to keep them safe in captivity.

On the other hand, we have been poised on the brink of severe environmental problems such as water, soil and land pollutions or climate change that leave us more vulnerable than the extinction of plant and animal species. Of course, those problems are main factors that cause the loss of some species and put the natural habitat at risk of extinction. Moreover, water, soil and land pollutions make fresh water and agricultural land turning into a monetary and political concerns on a global scale. Also, climate change causes more frequent natural disasters of extreme weather that make our life more unpleasant. We can save wild animals and plants from their extinction, but the question is who can save us from ours.

In conclusion, I think that the loss of some plants and animals should be worried, but it is just the consequence of more important environmental problems. I think we should concentrate our efforts on those problems rather than only focus on the animals and plants’ extinction.
