Band 8 Model Answer for IELTS cue card: Describe a habit your friend has and you want to develop
I have some close friends who are really successful in life. The reason behind their successes is that they are hard working and always maintain good habits to balance between life and work. One of my friends I always admire is Rose who has many good habits, and there is one habit of hers I want to develop, which is doing yoga every early morning.
Actually, I met Rose in a formal meeting about health coaching. She said that she was in her forties, but she looked way (used to express the degree) too young for her age. I just made a compliment on her look and she said she had been practicing yoga for 5 years. She told me that she has spent an hour a day to practice yoga since then because it helps her feel relaxed, recharge her energy, thereby improving her work productivity (he effectiveness of productive effort). In addition to improving her mental health, practicing yoga not only helps her reduce several risk factors for her heart disease, but also slow down her aging process and make her body look younger than me, although we are at the same age.

Therefore, I really want to form the habit of doing yoga everyday. As you know, yoga brings a range of benefits for mind, body, and soul. I am quite overweight, so yoga may help me to be in good shape if I practice daily. Another reason is that I want to improve my immune systems which yoga can help a lot.
MODEL ANSWER 2:
Who your friend is
My best friend, Lisa, has numerous good habits which have always made my parents fond of her. One of her habits that I really want to follow is that she has a routine of doing Yoga every morning.
What habit he/she has
We both studied together at the same university and lived together for two years in a dormitory. Therefore, every morning when I woke up, I saw her doing Yoga. I used to try to follow her footsteps by doing Yoga in the morning with her, however, it did not last more than 5 days due to my laziness. And of course, I failed to take that habit off her. Lisa has told me that if she does not do yoga for one day, she will get into a state of disappointment and feels extremely uncomfortable, like she has missed something important.
And explain why you want to develop this habit
It can’t be denied that yoga provides a lot of benefits for our body and the mind too. It not only keeps the mind alert but also boosts our blood circulation. I think to do yoga properly, I need to work hard with determination, dedication and discipline.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions
Here some follow up questions in IELTS Speaking Part 3 you may be asked in your speaking part 3 by IELTS examiner related to IELTS cue card “describe a habit your friend has and you want to develop”.
1. What habits should children have?
I think putting children to bed early is of great benefit (=beneficial) for their cognitive, physical and emotional development. They should also brush their teeth after waking up and before going to bed to keep their teeth clean. Besides, kids should learn to obey and respect the elder people. These are basic habits I believe all children must develop.
2. What should parents do to teach their children good habits?
I think they can encourage their children to build and develop good habits including good social skills, good manners and physical activity habits. To do so, parents have to keep them repeat these good behaviors or action on a daily basis (=daily, everyday), which will help children inculcate (instill a habit by persistent instruction) it more promptly.
3. What influences do children with bad habits on other children?
Friends are of great importance for children to stay happy and healthy. But some friends with bad habits sometimes can have an negative influence too. Children can easily pick up some bad habits from friends such as cursing, lying, bulling. These habits can affect their emotion and social skill development negatively, so it is crucial for parents to try and nip the habit in the bud (to stop something before it has a chance to become established).
4. Why do some habits change when people get older?
Habits will possibly change when people get older because of changing in schedules and priorities(a thing regarded as more important than another). For instance, when people get older, because of their hectic (=very busy) pace of life, they might not be able to have enough time for doing exercise regularly. Similarly, due to tons of deadlines, people have to burn the midnight oil (to work late into the night) to finish all of their works and thus, they will not be able to get up early. in the morning. Meanwhile, it is easier to maintain these good habits of doing exercises and getting up early because people have lots of spare time when they are younger.
