Describe a time that you had to change your plan/ you changed your mind
You should say:
- When this happened.
- What made you change the plan.
- What the new plan was.
- And how you felt about the change.
Well, one particularly unpleasant experience that sticks in my memory was a time I had to abandon my plans because of the terrible weather.
I was the time I went to ABC with my mum and brother, which must have been about 2 or 3 years ago, when my mum came over to visit me in CPE. We had decided to go traveling to ABC as none of us had been there before, and we’d heard a lot of great things about it.

And basically what happened was that we got caught in a big storm, which seemed to spring up out of nowhere because at first it was pretty sunny and just just some minutes later it was pouring down with rain.
What didn’t help us was the fact that, at the time the storm hit, we were on our way walking to the camping site, and because we hadn’t checked the weather forecast, we didn’t bring along any umbrellas, so we got absolutely soaked! To make matters worse, there were some flashes of lightning and this apparently made us feel unsafe.
So we ended up having no choice but walk home instead, and because it was still raining when we go to the door entrance. So there we were, completely drenched and utterly exhausted! Unfortunately, we didn’t have any plan so we couldn’t continue the trip.
And looking back on it now, I would say I actually gained quite a lot from this experience, as it’s really taught me to plan carefully before doing anything.

How do you explain to your friends when you have to change the plan because of your personal reasons?
For intimate buddies, a blunt excuse will do as we have mutual understanding, and there is no fear of undermining the relationship! However, for friends or acquaintances, a greater degree of caution should be taken or you may accidentally or deliberately destroy a relationship! In this case, I would try to persuade them that I have justifiable reason to change the plan, comparing the pros and cons of the old and the new plan so as to make them follow my way or thinking.
