Band 9 Model Answer

Although I’m not from a rich family, I’m absolutely willing splurge on stuff on special occasions. Off the top of my head, there was a time when I and four of my closest friends went out for dining on my 18^th birthday, which is a milestone of my life, I have to admit.

We made up our mind to go for a newly opened dinner within a stone’s throw from my house. As it’s their opening day, there were special offers and discounts, and it really lit the spot as most of us were running short of cash. Without much hesitation, we entered and started ordering food. I was trying to be less and asked my friends to order as much as they could because I would be the person to foot the bill oil my birthday.

The occasion was quite meaningful to me because I had the chance to meet up my friends after such a long time as they are living and working quite far from me. You see, since our graduation, each of us launched ourselves on our own path and seem to be unable to see each person in person. We had a whale of a time without having to shell out too much cash on the dinner. After the meal, the five of us did draw up a plan for our next hangout. I’m really looking forward to our reunion a month later.

Do you often celebrate an event?

Not quite often, I have to admit. Only on grand occasions do I feel like celebrating something. Some events that mark a milestone in my life such as my successful admission into a prestigious university, promotion to a higher position in the company or my birthdays are what would make me shell out big bucks.

Why do more and more young people prefer to celebrate with their friends than their family?

Needless to say, a couple of reasons are to blame for youngsters’ preference to enjoy a festival with their friends rather than spend it with their family members. Firstly, the generation gap is mainly responsible for this trend. Young people frequently shut their mouth close when being together with their parent coz there is not much in common between them. On the contrary, they can freely exchange casual talks with their intimates without having to worry if they make some mistakes in the use of formal language or gestures. Secondly, having the company of their friends, young people tend to be more relaxed and dynamic, participating fully in the festivals while the presence of their parents or the elders can spoil the pleasure of such an occasion.
