Band 8 Model Answer for IELTS Speaking Part 2
So 8 months ago or thereabouts (near a particular place, amount, time etc), my university organized an event relating to the environment, you know, they were trying to raise people’s awareness of environmental protection. In fact, recently, due to excessive illegal pouching, the number of several species such as foxes, fish or lions have become dwindled (to become gradually less or smaller). So the event was about a group of environmentalists exploring some areas in pristine (clean, neat, new) condition to elucidate (explain) the negative impacts of human activities on the environment and to seek for a safer natural habitat for the endangered animals.

Anyway, as a person who is environmentally conscious, I attended the event … just for the sake of it. In addition, I wanted to gain a better insight into all the environment-related problems as well as the feasible solutions to mitigate (reduce the harmfulness of sth) all the issues and the event was riveting (extremely interesting or exciting).
You know, I had an opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life (the position they have in society) at the event and it really helped expand my horizons as we had a raft of (a very large number of sth) debates associating to environmental degradation. The debates were pretty intense yet insightful, and I don’t really want to sound pretentious but as a person who has a good command of (have good knowledge of sth) biology and environment-related subjects, people in my team actually held me in high regard.
Although there were tons of convoluted (very complicated) theories and explanations, I enjoyed every minute of the event and to me, it was one of the most exciting events ever. I hope in the future, my university will arrange more events like that one because I am sure it will contribute greatly to the environment.
