IELTS Cue Card: Describe an argument two of your friends had.

You should say
When it happened?
What it was about?
How it was solved?
How you felt about it?

BAND 8 MODEL ANSWER 1:

I’m going to describe a conflict between two of my friends.

If my memory serves me well, It was about 6 years ago when we engaged in a voluntary activity involving building rooms for school and teaching English for the disadvantaged children.

So, on a daily basis we needed to hold lots of conversations to discuss and figure out suitable teaching methods as well as the design of the rooms. At first, every thing had gone smoothly as we all agreed with our leader who was the senior at the time but when it comes to choosing the right material for English lessons, the argument broke out between the leader and an American friend. They both came up with different ideas. Everything just came to an end when the supervisor gave sound advice. He decided to give them time to experiment the chosen materials.

In terms of my feeling, well, I would say I was quite anxious in the first place as I was afraid they might pick a fight with each other when both of them just lost their cool but I also thought that this incidence was partly a positive sign since people put all of their efforts into the project.

BAND 8 MODEL ANSWER 2:

When the argument happened
I have a group of friends where all of them are pretty easy-going (=sociable, opening) and do not normally quarrel with (have an argument with s.o) one another. But there was one time two of people in my group had one fight on a vacation in 2016.
Why they argued with each other
As far as I recall (used for telling somebody what you remember about a specific event, person etc), my best friend Chloe was trying to encourage Marie to use Tinder to date a handsome guy, just for fun, not a serious suggestion because Marie always said that she felt lonely and she’s been single for years. However, Marie took it seriously (regard something important and worthy of attention) and found her joke offensive (unpleasant or insulting) because she believed it was disgraceful (extremely bad) to do that, meeting a stranger in a foreign country could put her in jeopardy (likely to be destroyed or damaged). Chloe then didn’t like the reaction and the way Marie spoke, although it was just a joke at the beginning, so she then started hurling insults at (to direct insults at someone) Chloe.
What happened at the end
Chloe started to realize that this was going too far (to behave in a way that is unreasonable) and then quickly calmed her down. She also tried to apologize to Marie and said that it was just for fun and brought her downstairs to buy her a big cup of milk tea, which she really liked. At that day’s dinner, they discussed a bit about the issue, in a peaceful and respectful manner. Although it was an argument, I was able to understand how much we, as friends, care about each other.
