Band 8 Model Answers and IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe a businessman you admire

Well, there are hundreds of articles about successful businesspersons I often come across (find something by chance) when I read the daily news. Recently, I have read a piece of news about a famous businessman, Adam Lambert whom I admire the most.

Actually, he was born into a typical lower-class (having the lowest social status) family in Scotland and lived in a weaver’s cottage (a type of house used by weavers for cloth production). He lost his parents at an early age (when you are very young) and couldn’t afford (have enough money to pay for sth) to go school. For survival, he started selling cakes at $2 only. After saving up enough money from this small profitable venture ( a new business), he invested in a second-hand car and set up in (=establish/found) a car rental business. His business grew gradually but steadily, and he became a billionaire.

He was not only a successful entrepreneur (= businessperson) , but he was also a philanthropist (a person who helps the poor) who donates lots of money to help the underprivileged (not having as many opportunities and advantages as other people). He has helped thousands of people to establish (=set up ) their small businesses to earn their own living (to earn enough money to pay for everything someone need), which contributes greatly to society.
So that’s why I respect this person so much. He is a true legend to me. I have followed him on Twitter and Facebook, where he shares his innovative (inventing, advanced) ideas and motivate young people to have their startups. I hope I will become a successful businessman like him in the future.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 (Discussion)

Here are some IELTS Speaking part 3 questions probably asked during your IELTS speaking by IELTS examiner related to IELTS cue card Describe a businessman you admire

1. What do you think should be the retirement age for men and women?
In my humble opinion (used for expressing your opinion about sth), the retirement age for regular laborers should be 55 for women and 60 for men. People who do hazardous (dangerous) or heavy work or work in a place with harsh (difficult to live in) living conditions should retire at 55 for men and 50 for women. For while-collar (relating to people working in offices, doing work that needs mental effort) workers like teachers, doctors, etc the retirement age should be 60 for both men and women.

2. What qualities do people need to run their own business?
I think the most important quality is financial management because the ultimate (the last, most important) aim of most business is profit. Besides, a entrepreneur should have good leadership skill to delegate (to give part of your duties, work, or responsibilities to someone) effectively.
